Just wondering if anyone knows of a good place, for next September, for 4 people. Rustic style is fine, pool would be nice but not essential. Would much rather it was not in a tourist complex. Should be ideally within easy walking distance of a village with bar/restaurant.

Thanks!

Hi friendly fellow tree dwellers. A friend and I are planning a long weekend in portuigal in August. we want to go to Lisbon or nearby, and this is what we're looking for:

  • a village / town / suburb near enough to Lisbon or in Lisbon
  • that has good beaches (i.e. clean, nice water, not loads of cheesy apartment blocks, hideous restaurants and irish pubs)
  • is not too touristy and British
  • is laid back - we like bars on or near the beach but we're not clubbers, more into a lazy glass of wine…

Hey

Does anyone know of any good sociable hostels in either the Algarve, Lisbon or Porto? I'm going to be on my own, so am looking for some places that are easy to make friends in!

Hi,

I am planning a one week holidays in the national Peneda Geres parc, for hiking.

As I will have no car, my idea is the following (after some searches on the web):

From Porto, take a bus to Melgaco then a taxi until Castro Laboreiro.
Stay 1 day there.

Then walk by the GR until Peneda, stay one night (I read on the rough guide that we could find rooms to sleep in this village), as I think it will be too long to walk this path in one day to Soajo.

Then walk until Soajo and stay there 2…

Hi there,

Even if I went back and fourth with my LP, I still have some questions on some specific routes:

1- Campo do Geres to Coimbra : from my readings, I have to do it in 2 parts, the first being Campo-Braga by bus (50 min), and second being Braga-Coimbra (IC train, 2h). Now I was wondering if that is easy to do in reality, since the bus and the train stations in Braga are not at the same location, etc. How much time would I need to do all that? Or is there a better route?

I reserved a room via telephone at a guesthouse in Lisbon. Credit cards are not accepted. They require the first nights fee of 45 euro in order to hold the reservation. I am supposed to mail a check to the house manager. The guesthouse has been in business for a long time and reviews are good and the manager/owner seems like a very sweet lady, so I am comfortable with sending money in advance.
I am in the U.S. Can anyone suggest the best way for me to get 45 euros to the guesthouse to…

Hi, I'm due to be working briefly in Lisbon in August and then plan to head for Brazil for a few months but flights ore over £900.

Has anyone managed to catch a boat from Portugal to Brazil / have any hints on how possible it would be?

At the moment I'm just planning on heading to the docks in Lisbon and asking around...

There's also the qusetion of whether I need to have onward travel booked before I am allowed to enter Brazil, any experiences?

Any reply much appreciated, Thanks, James

Hello,
I'm going to Lisbon in august and planning to stay in Cascais for 4 or 5 days. As far as I wont rent a car I will be moving by public transport widely, not only in Lisbon trams, buses, funiculars and metro but in Cascais, Cabo de Roca, Sintra, Sul do Tejo as well. I tried to decide what kind of ticket is more appropriate for so wide trips using www.carris.pt</a> but found the system is very unusual and complicated. May be anybody could advise me on the appropriate kind of multi-day or…
