My wife and I will be in Lisbon in late May for a day. Unfortunately, that day will be a Monday and it appears as though every point of interest will be closed. Does anybody have any thoughts on interesting things to see when everything else is closed? In the alternative, any thoughts on a beach that makes a reasonable day trip? We need to spend the night near the airport to catch an early flight to Barcelona.
My boyfriend in I are spending 6 nights in Portugal -- flying into Porto in the afternoon of Nov. 2 and out of Lisbon the morning of Nov. 8. I wish I could spend more time, but, alas, American vacation allowances are what they are. My original thought was 3 nights in Porto and 3 in Lisbon -- I know still not enough time to know either city, but it seemed like a fair split, particularly with the train looking somewhat fast and convenient.
But.. I keep thinking about seaside towns and fishing…

My partner and I, in our 40's; self-proclaimed foodies; one of us into museums, one of us into wandering while the other one is in the museums; queer; one of us English and one of us from the U.S. will be on holiday in England with family through New Year's and decided to visit Lisbon before heading home to the U.S (Minneapolis, Minnesota).
Questions for you:
1. Cheapest transportation from London?
2. What part of the city should we look for lodging---NOT into hotels.
3. How long is a…
can anyone verify if there is a left luggage facility in faro town?
my guide book says there is one at the airport but its 6.95 euro an hour, forums i have searched say there is no left luggage place at faro train station but possibly in the bus station or at the big forum shopping centre.
if anyone can verify this and has any idea how much it is that would be great
many thanks
Have never been to Portugal before. Will be in Lisbon at the end of November and have two full days to get out of the city to do some exploring. I was thinking about either heading north to Porto, or heading south to the Algarve. I'm looking to do a mixture of R&R stuff and some sight seeing, although I'm not much of a museum person - basically just want to soak up some Portuguese life. Not really looking to do a winery tour either as I've done my fair share of those. Also will not be…
I went to Portugal in July 2010 and visited its famous cities - Porto and Lisbon. I traveled on bus and train and have given an account of the same in an article uploaded on a website - the link is:

Kindly go through it and give your comments or ask questions.
We are spending a few days in Lisbon at the start of our Portuguese holiday (30/09 - 10/10) and will then be heading down to Salema.
I have a few questions about this that I hope someone can help me with...
What is the best way to get from Lisbon to Salema - bus or train? How long will it take? What will it cost?
We are also thinking about hiring a car but don't know whether it's worth hiring it in Lisbon for the remainder of our holiday, or waiting until we're in the Algarve and just…
Myself and my boyfriend will be in Lisbon from 30/09 to 03/10, before we head down to the coast, and we can't wait! We have already booked an apartment in Barrio Alto, so will be based there.
When we travel, we like to check out things that are perhaps slightly quirky and off the beaten track - i.e. not the usual tourist sites that the books tell you to visit - although we will of course check out some of those as well.
So, does anyone have any recommendations about such things that we could…
Me and my boyfriend are looking to go on holiday at the end of September this year – somewhere beautiful, relaxing, hot and cheap. With a beach but not a resort! We want to sit around and drink (hey, we are English) but not somewhere covered in tourists, cheap clubs and tacky shops.
I thought Faro looks really nice. However, we’re vegan so need to have accommodation with a kitchen (which is also much cheaper as we’re on a budget!), and I can’t find anywhere with kitchen facilities – so does…
