Just a word of caution--- there is no reception at this facility at all. No daily cleaning service nor breakfast- you do it all. It is similar to an apartment. And, no credit card. Emailed the approximate time I was to be at the guesthouse- arrived and no one was there until around 2 hrs later. No way to contact owner. The tourist office did identify a cell number- which I called and which there was no answer. The facility is not physically bad, just found the situation quite inconvenient.
…Iºm in Portugal at the moment and have discovered that October 5th is the centennary of Portugal becoming a republic. I know itºs a public holiday but does anything happen in the way of celebrations on this day? I will be somewhere along the West or South coast at the time, if anyone knows of anything going on! Thanks!
Hey there all,
Well I have gotten itchy feet again so I made an impulse buy to go to Porto from next Thursday to Sunday to check it out. First of all I have started trawling through this site and others to find out information about this place and what not to miss and so far I have:
* Igreja de Sao Francisco. Named after one of the area’s patron saints, the Igreja de Sao Fancisco was constructed in the 1200s. Visitors can admire the Roman and Gothic styles of the church as well as its…Three years ago I had read about a Holy Relic of thorns from Jesus crown that are on display at Sao Roque Church. I looked and looked and could not find them. Does anyone know where in the church these are displayed?
Thanks
I am looking for a quiet place to spend the winter. An untouristy village would be our preference but we are open to suggestions. We like to be near the beach for walking but we don't lie in the sun or swim much. My husband is a painter and likes to paint on a balcony or patio. We are fine with something that is not upscale, charm would be great. We like to be within walking distance of a village where we can get a meal or a glass of wine. We will not be driving.
Thanks for any help you…
I will be traveling alone to Portugal in mid-October for a couple of days. Anyone have a recommendation of where there is a good "travelers" community and it would be nice and easy to meet other travelers? As I am going for a short time would like to pick one area to go to - and no preference except would be great if it is relatively warm and a place where there are good places to meet other travelers.
thanks in advance!

Hi,
I will be in Lisbon in mid October and traveling solo. Can anyone recommend a good trustworthy tour guide for two days?
Thanks.
I will be at a conference at Vilamoura, but on my free days I would like to see something more interesting! Does anyone know if there is reasonable public transportation to nearby towns or areas? Or would I need to go on a tour or get a guide? Any specific suggestions of places to go? I'd be interested in walking around old towns, craft markets, anything authentically Portuguese. Nice scenery would be a plus. Thank you for any help!
Please could posters stop spelling it "Barrio Alto"
Contrary to what some posters think Portugal is not a Spanish-speaking country!!!!
phew, glad I got that one of my chest!
I'm thinking that we might want to stay in some of the houses on this site when we visit Portugal in February/March:

Does anybody know if we really need to book these in advance? Is it possible to just show up and see if they have a room?
