All indicators are that the south of the country will be warmer and sunnier at this time of year. I do not have a car and we will rely on buses and trains. What places do you recommend that are truly special. We will be in Portugal approximately 9 days. In advance, thank you.

Hi, We are going to Portugal for nine days. Teh gudebooks indicate theat the north of the country is more interesting. But, we are weighing in the winter factor. Any thoughts?

1. What would you see if you had nine days?

2. In late dec. would you focus on the north or south?

3. Are most sites closed on Sunday, what to do Sunday?

I've been living in southern spain but heading back home soon. before I leave I'm keen to visit Portugal and/or Morocco. Most people I know here are working or for various reasons can't come with me. I plan to travel around end of Jan/Feb.

Anyway if you're thinking of a similar trip drop me a line. I'm in my 30's, have travelled to numerous places so I would say I'm a traveller at heart :)

Someone has told me about a place on the Azores where there are hot springs actually in the ocean, right by the shoreline. (Can you actually bathe in them there?)

I don't mean the well-known ones inland at Furnas

I'm looking for current info on direct trains between Madrid and Lisbon. I use bahn.de as my online rail planning tool. It usually works great, but at the moment, when I enter Madrid-Chamartin as my departure and Lisboa Oriente as my destination, the only trains it shows me are one daily trip requiring changes in Zaragoza and Burgos. I thought there was or still is a direct overnight train, but it's not showing up on the bahn.de site. I can find other sites that seem to suggest it does…

Has anyone been to the azores recently and do you know if american credit and atm cards work there or are they all chip and pin?

Heading to the Algarve for a few days next month (based in Faro) but will hire a car. Any nice day trips anyone can recommend?
