What is the best way to see the Douro Valley from Porto? Take the train to Pocinho and the next one back? Or end the trip in another place? My wife, 67 and I, 74 are planning a 10 to 12 day tour of Portugal, Spain & Amsterdam between 12th and 30th June 2014. We need help with a good plan within a tight budget especially on the following:

I have a 2 week holiday planned with my partner and 2.5 year old toddler in June. We will spend a week in Lisbon and then want to go somewhere else not too far away as we have return flights from Lisbon.
