Hello,

Next weekend Iam going for my first trip to Portugal. I am flying to Lisbon and really would like to visit a small un - touristy village with friendly people and local market if possible. My main aim is to take photos but more of people than the landscape - so It doesnt have to be beautiful but it needs to be real. Does anyone knows or can reccomend something? Preferably close to Lisbon or Fatima.

Thanks

You do understand that Fatima is HOURS away from Lisbon, right? I just want to make sure you don't think that they are close to each other.

We went to smallish towns on our trip, but never any place that I think would meet your specific needs. Fatima itself is not very big. It has roughly 10,000 people in it. Maybe it would do.

Near Lisbon (22 miles) there is an old picturesque (almost medieval) village called Penedo, in the heart of Sintra mountain. You can take a look at some photos at www.sintraholidays.com ("Sintra Penedo" / "Foreland House"). Not touristy and not found for almost people.
If you ever goes there in exchange you'll have to share your photos!
Have a nice trip.

I forgot: there is an street week-end rustique market close to Penedo (at Almocagem entry). Penedo is a village with an old traditional rural population (excellent faces!).
