@ Artemis, It seems you can also rent the gadgets at some other places, which are open during the weekend, such as service-stations. I think the system so complicated, that I have not been to Portugal since the system was introduced. If I would go, I'd go to my bank, which is a daughter company of the Portuguese bank Caixa Geral, and they have the gadget. In that case I would pay via my Spanish bank-account. I have not yet heard of other Spanish or other foreign banks, which have this feature.

Liberat I do not think it is as simple as that from my understanding as none resident you can not set up these type of payments, you need to rent the device or you can buy but still can only top up a pay points. I was told this by a local though so nothing official.

Richiavo, I saw a note at my bank, saying that you could get the electronic gadget. I asked about it and they director told me: If you want to go to Portugal, come by and I get you the gadget. Of course the gadget has to be related to a bank-account, but it is nowhere written that that bank-account has to be in Portugal. In fact I can use some of the French toll-roads with my Spanish gadget. Unfortunately not all of them but the ones in the French Basque Country as well as the one from there to Toulouse.

Richiavo, It seems that many people do not seem to be able to think across the border of their own country. I find a similar problem with flights. If you go to a travel-agency to ask for flights from A to B, which are not connected directly, they start looking for flights to another place in the country of A, in stead of looking for the flights from A to whatever place there is and start looking for flights to B from any of these places. I just booked a trip to Iceland and found out that it was much cheaper to fly from Coruña (in Spain) to Amsterdam and then on the Iceland than from Coruña to Barcelona and on to Iceland. In a far away past I had a similar situation, when having to fly from Malaga to Amsterdam. The travel-agency the company was using, said it was not possible, because there were no connecting flights from either Barcelona or Madrid to Amsterdam after the time we could leave from Malaga. In this case it turned out that we could fly to London and then to Amsterdam. So, I got this of my chest!

Liberat i have a solution for that one don't use a travel agent they are useless. I think the last time I booked a flight from a travel agent for lfight swithin in Europe must have been nearly 20 years ago. And even then it was STA who are slightly better than the norm!

richiavo, I fully agree and do not normally use a travel-agency. The one I use, if necessary, I can talk to and they know that I can find my way, but I have also found, that they every now and then come up with solutions that I did not know about. I also know that the solutions the normal travel-agencies come up with are not always the cheapest, because they stick to their country and do not consider other possibilities.
