Hi all
I've been reading and using Thorn Tree several times for my trips, but for my next one I've a question I couldn't really find an answer to. So I'm sure I'll get some info again as well! :)
With a friend I'm going to Portugal from 4 to 18 September, we arrive in Porto at 3PM. We have a rough plan, starting in Porto, perhaps off to Braga/Guimarães and followed by a couple of days in Peneda-Gerês. Then back to the coast (definitely a stop in Viana do Castelo), going South to Lisbon (several stops in between, what will lead us). We'd end the trip with a couple of nights in Porto.
Since September is the start of the university, we were wondering if it was worth to go to Braga the first day already (instead of Porto, where we'll end anyway). Will there be enough to do in the bars and pubs? It seems a big uni city, but what happens when students are not there? Would you advise going there on the first day already? Or wait a couple of days, or perhaps just skip the city?
Next to parties, I love history. So then there's Guimarães, which combines both as well. Good place to start as well? Perhaps both! Or perhaps we should have a go at Coimbra...
Another question is how to get to Campo de Gerês by bus. Can't find it on the website of Rede Expressos. Or should we go to an other base in this region?
And what's the most awesome beach between Porto and Lisboa? Not for sunbathing, but pure wild, showing the power water and clifss, with fantastic sights or desolate nature... I read about the forest next to Leria, so perhaps that's spectacular too?
If you think it's too much for two weeks, let me know as well. We're not sure if we'd ever get to Lisboa, but it's a matter of a goal/direction. ;)
Thanks for the help!
