Hi, we're planning to go to portugal this coming september. We are heading first to lisbon for 2 nights then to algarve. I read a lot about different towns in algarve. I'm really lost right now. I liked lagos since it has beautiful beaches. On the other hand, we want to be close to a lively town. We enjoy town walks and nice restaurants. Albufeira seemed an option as well since its a lively town
What are the musts in algarve or in portugal in general? we can have 3 days in algarve (lagos or any other town) and 2 more days that i'm not sure where we should spend (porto or a different town in algarve). Any recommendations?

P.S we're not renting a car so we would like a place that we can walk around.
Thanks a lot!

Lagos not only has beautiful beaches but also lively nightlife the old town is lovely and has a great atmosphere. Albufeira is not so good unless you enjoy manufactured beach resorts. Tavira is very nice, you can walk to the beach and the town is quite lively but much more local. For 3 nights i would do just one place and from what you say you want Lagos would be best.

Lagos rocks at night, you really don't need to look any further for a 'lively' town. Also has a beautiful old town, with the original old walls and slave market etc. Also has good train links to Faro/Lisbon.

Hey ichiavo, thanks a lot for the fast response. That looks great. I'll look into Tavira as well.
So I have extra 2 days between Lisbon and Lagos. Any suggestions for where should we go?

Hey SpankingSteve, thanks for the quick reply. Thay sounds cool I'm even more excited about it. What do you think about Faro? is it worth to spend our extra 2 days at ?

I'd give Faro a miss, to be honest you might aswell spend the extra couple of days exploring west of Lagos, take a bus to Cabo St Vincent/Sagres or train up to Silves for the Castle and lunch by the river, there's plenty to do/see around Lagos.

3 days is not a lot to explore Algarve. I'd miss completely Albufeira and head to Portimão or Lagos, good combination of beaches and lively atmosphere. A day trip to Sagres is also a great idea!
