Magical one-week accomodation in Sintra or Cascais for personal rebuilding/inspiration.

I am attending a conference in Lisbon in September, and would like to take an extra week in advance to think/decompress/re-energize from a divorce.

I picture staying in either Sintra or Cascais, and being on foot. Meals in local restaurants within walking distance. No automobile. Lots and lots of walking. Some book time. Some tears.

I am looking for a magical place to stay. I don't want to stay in a large hotel. It doesn't need to be cheap, either. Just cozy and special. Suggestions?

Hi
Take a look at www.sintracottage.com for a wonderful cottage at Sintra, at the very heart of the mountain but 1,5 miles to the village. You will find there bycicles for all trips and, everytime you'll need, help with the owner. take a look at the short movies in Sintra at the "About Sintra" link there, too.
But take care: at Sintra you might forget everything else...

Sorry to hear about the divorce mate. I know it can be a hard time, but dont worry, youll find Cascais a really great place where you can find some inspiration. I was there just last summer, abolsutely loved it. It's small enough to be peaceful, but is still a cosmopolitain city with lots going on. Did you know they shot some Bond films in Cascais?! Anyway, the company I used to find my accommodation was called Holistay. Was really happy with it, just check out their site: http://www.holistay.com/search/index.php?query=Cascais&search=search

Ive also found variuos other sites which you can use to get some more information on Cascais: the official website http://www.cm-cascais.pt/cascais is defo worth a look as it has loads of information on what there is to do. What are you wanting to do there anyway? Relax or work out? This would help me narrow down the search!

For a general summary of Cascais I would click on http://www.travel-in-portugal.com/Cascais/ It nicely summarises the town in a very clear manner- I wish I had read that before I went. Anyway, wish you all the best and if you have any more questions dont hesitate to ask! x

For me Sintra was the start of something special in my life. I have been to both. I am not a beach person, so I again will settle with Sintra. It has a magical inspirational quality about it that worked wonders for me. I went back three times. Here's a bit I wrote about it and something that might give you a little inspiration LINK
