Have booked a long weekend from the UK arriving 8pm on a Friday night so happy to stay in Faro Friday evening (unless anyone has any other suggestions!). Was aiming to hire a car, wanting to find a quietish seaside town - am easily pleased - a couple of bars, restaurants and some walking opportunities - just wanting a relaxing couple of days (probably within 2 hours of driviing from Faro). Does anyone have any top tips?

Faro itself is not too bad as it has no "real" beach and thus no mass tourism (or at least it had ten years ago when I had short holiday on the Algarve coast).
I liked Tavira to the east, but it is not the place to go if you look for those rock cliffs - Tavira has sand dunes. Have a look at Estoi and the pousada with its garden along the way.
I also liked Lagos, as I had the impression it had a life of its own independent of tourism, and Sagres, because of the wilder scenery nearby - go to the Cabo Sao Vicente if you can.
