Hello. I have done quite a bit of research for our travels in Portugal, this August, but am having difficulty verifying good spots for teens. I know Alvor and Albufeira are the hot spots for teens, but I am trying to find a resort that is really good for kids, and where there are english speaking visitors. We went to Romania last year, and while we enjoyed our stay, our kids had a tough time at the resort because although it marketed itself as "family oriented", it was primarily young children.

We like to do the cultural experience for half the trip, staying in hostels and meeting the locals; but we do enjoy a few days of resort life - does anyone have any ideas specific to this age group?
Thanks!

Are your kids able to use the internet?
Tell them where you are going, ad ask them to find out what things that appeal to them exist in the surroundings.

"staying in hostels and meeting the locals."

I don't think these two go very well together. The hostels are for tourists, mainly from out of Portugal, while for the locals you have to go out in the street, although, if you don't speak portuguese, you'll not have much contacts with the locals.

Your "kids" amount to a full-fledged adult and a very-nearly adult. I second the idea of getting them into the discussions and decisions. The big challenge may be convincing them to let you come along.

Stay far, far away from anything family-friendly!! In case you didn't know, "family-friendly" does actually mean "for little kids". I assumed that was generally known...
