Mid July, I will be driving a rental from Lisbon to Carrapateira near Lagos in the South-West. I did a similar trip two years ago the other way round, taking an incredible route stopping in Beja, Mouroa, Monsaraz, Elvas and Marvao.

My question: any suggestion where top stop this year en route, to have beautiful nature experiences or go on a hike for a few hours? I'm willing to do detours, it's not about taking the fastest way south.

Also, what would be a good place to spend the nights (budget up to 60-70€ for a double)? I remember Marvao to be an incredible and quite place with a tremendous sundown.

Thanks for any suggestion!

Hey,

I'm portuguese and I think you should spend a few days in Algarve, because the atlantic coast there is so beautiful!! I recommend a trip I done before and I love it: [http://www.travel-tailors.com/detalhado.php?i=163]

Hi there,

Depending of the kind of places you like and depends of waht kind of thing you like to do, for instance:
- Salema, a small typical village of fishermen;
- visit the lighthouse of São Vicente and the surroundings including Sagres fortress, near Sagres;
- quite close to Carrapaeira you can find Arrifana, a village on the top of a cliff with an impressive view
- and Aljezur with a interesting road until Praia da Amoreira.

I have a blog with informations about Portugal you might find it interesting: http://www.walkinginportugal.blogspot.pt/

Have a nice time,
David Monteiro
