Which would you choose for a week away with family, especially if budget is the main concern - The Algarve / Portugal or The Canary Islands?

We can fly to either for the same price, we will hire a villa for our large family and are mainly looking at relaxing, swimming & eating. Which is the best value? Which is easiest to negotiate with kids etc.

Thanks!

Tanya

Hi Tanya - Why not try the Silver Coast of Portugal you will need to fly to Lisbon, we have some great beaches for relaxing and if you are interested I know a fantastic property for a family at a good price with swimming pool and games room for children, which does help keep them occupied! PM me if you are interested. BB

Dear Tanya,
Both are fantastic options. I have worked in the Algarve and now in Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria. They each have their attractions. Briefly i would advise it depends on the time of year as this may affect your swimming! Canary Islands are over 1000k further South and therefore offer a year round weather solution plus due to the Island shapes there are great swimming coves / beaches that offer protected swimming and diving. Summer in Portugal and either side of it is great all be it for the crowds as many European visitors head South by land during summer makin some beaches crowded. South East coast is relatively less busy and very beautiful although less options for accommodation etc. I may be a little biased now that i am based here in Fuerteventura - but we really do have some fantastic beaches here and with warmer waters! In either case enjoy your holidays!
