Going to Portugal the week before Easter (for 8 days) and was wondering what peoples' recommendations are for a travel route.

North to South?
South to North?
Does it matter?
Is Holy week festivities better in one city versus the other that might impact my direction?

Thanks for any insight . . . I plan on travelling mostly by train between the 2 cities where possible.

Not better just different. They'll have their own style and budget.

I escaped Seville SS and went to Caseras, Estrimadura.
Different. And smaller thank God.

The trick will be getting a room.
www.hostelz.com lists hotels, hostals, and hotels. And dates available.

Good luck. Have fun. Watch your pockets.

The train along thw Duero River, out of Porto, is supposed to be spectacular. Doesn't matter where you go.

It'll be off the beaten. And their own SS.

Adventure.

No.

The best thing I can suggest is that you Google "holy week (+ name of any town on your way)" and see if there are any celebrations. Some towns are renowned for their parades, such as Braga, whereas there are many that have no celebrations at all except maybe on Good Friday. In a place like Braga, you can expect full hotels charging premium rates. In somewhere like Lisbon, there will be more tourists than, say, in early March because Easter is holiday period.
