Here are some activities during June, in Porto:

  • Day 6 and 7: 40 hours non-stop in Serralves modern art museum: Serralves em Festa

  • During the Euro 2008, on the days of the portuguese games (7, 11 and 15 - 1st. stage), there will be 3 "mini-stadiums" where you can watch the games:
    • Avenida dos Aliados (city center, downtown)
    • Ribeira (near the river, north bank)
    • Castelo do Queijo (near the ocean) - called "Estádio Sagres" (Sagres Stadium), with music in the 3 days (Boss AC - 7jun, Táxi - 11jun, Da Weasel - 15jun)
  • 10 June: National Holiday

  • From 5 to 29: near the "Estádio Sagres", there will be the "“Festa da Francesinha” (Francesinha Feast) - "Francesinha" is a typical meal from Porto, spicy one ...

  • From 6 to 15: near to "Estádio Sagres", next to "Edifício Transparente" (Transparent Building), occurs a music event "4. edição do Alternativa Porto 2008" (Alternative Music - 4th Edition). Opening day, with DJ Roger Sanchez

  • From 12 to 15: The Oporto Show - Design exhibition

  • Night from 23 to 24 - probably the longest night on town: "Festa de S. João" (Saint John Feast)
    • 22.00 h on Praça da Batalha: drumming
    • 22.00 h on Avenida dos Aliados: Anjos (singers)
    • 00.00 h in the river: big Firework
    • 04.00 h near "Edifício Transparente": Yves Laroque
  • On the 24th - 17.00 h: in the Douro river, usually from Ponte da Arrábida (Arrábida bridge) to Ribeira, "Regata de Barcos Rabelos", Old Port Wine transport boats (Barcos Rabelos) race. Regional Holiday (Porto)

  • From 12 to 30: in Praça General Humberto Delgado, you can appreciate the "Cascata de S. João" (1457 little figures)

Pedro S,

My wife and I will be in Porto this July. Are there any specific events we should see while there? We will be there for 5 days and I plan to have a day trip to Braga and Anarmante (forgive the spelling). Are there any areas within Porto but out of the centre we should look at? Thank you for any advice

Hi

During July, I think that there is nothing "special" going on,
If you like music, on the 4th and 5th of July there will be the Super Bock Super Rock Festival
There are always lots of things to see and do. See What to see and Events in the Official Page.
By the way, it's Amarante ;-)
If you got some days, you should go to the Douro Valley, it's great from Régua to Pinhão. You can go by bus, car, train, boat (several companies) or helicopter.
You can always go to one of the several Travel Agencies in town and ask for a one day tour.
There is a mobility desk in the Tourism Office, near Town Hall.

About what to see near Porto, it depend what you want to see, if you want something specific that you can't see in the sites I mentioned, ask me, maybe I can help.

Enjoy your stay.
Regards from Porto

Pedro,

Thanks for the advice. Having looked at our schedule again I think we will spend our time exploring the centre of town and the port lodges.
