Hi
we are planning a driving trip in Portugal in April but don't want to take car into any large cities.
Could anyone recommend where we might stay preferably north of Porto. We would like to catch a train or bus into Porto -preferably less than 1 hour from Porto.
We would be happy to use this town/village as a base and travel to other recommendations?

If you don't want to be in a hotel in the city, my advice is to stay in a hotel with metro nearby, it's the best public transport in the city. There is also a good bus service.
As an example, take a look at Hotel Central Parque in Maia city, I think they have a private parking also.
