I'll be in Lagos from 9th to 16th July with my husband and 15 year old daughter. I'm hoping to do about 4 or 5 day trips. We don't want to spend all day in the car though. We have been to a few places - Sagres, Silves, Monchique and even Lisbon on previous trips. Any suggestions? We just want some pretty places to "chill out" for a few hours. Thanks.

Hi there,

Your final sentence/hint («we just want...») does help a lot keeping the ideas bounded to a certain distance/area...for otherwise (and for a day-trip, Lisbon does sound out-of-question) awkward ideas could come to light.

Since you've been (in the Algarve) to several recommended places across the western-most region, i believe you could (targeting some chill-out) find the other end (Tavira, Armona island, Fuzeta) and inland districts (São Brás de Alportel...and hilly surrounding area) a way into a different angle over Algarve (less touristy...which doesn't mean uninhabited). If you don't mind driving east/north for as far as 3 something hours (depending on average speed and national road traffic) you could go from Vila Real de Santo António up to Mértola, along Guadiana river...a pleasant countryside journey.

Other nice (coastline) trips (into Alentejo, Costa Vicentina) are a charming option, but you'd end-up by the beach/sea mostly...alike-landscapes to north Sagres western-facing coast. Heading towards Alentejo inland (far from sea or Guadiana river) can -being July- turn into a tiring and sweating experience...

Best Travel Wishes from Lisbon Metro!
