Hello! We are two girls planning to go to Madeira this agoust. We would like to know how much is life there, food, hostels and renting a car too. We are travelling on a low budget so we would like first of all see if Madeira can be affordable. More or less could u tell us if it is expensive or not?
Also we would appreciate very much to have some tips about which places to see on a 10 days stay. We love nature, trekking specially! And little villages and authentic places. Thank u so so much!

Try this...

http://shop.lonelyplanet.com/portugal/pocket-madeira-1/

Or this...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/DK-Eyewitness-Top-Travel-Guide/dp/0241007887/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1466408082&sr=1-2&keywords=madeira+travel+guide

Take a read of both and then come back on to ask more specific questions...

Hello alesita!

i am Fernando, i live in Madeira and i rent apartments for tourism, airbnb and booking..so i think i can help you!
you are comming in a high season (summer, christmas easter) so renting apartments or staying in hotels are more expensive. Renting an apartment is almost the same price as the hostels here..hotels you will pay..double price.
an apartment with good conditions..you will pay 60-70 euros per night. there are a lot of good restaurants, that you will spend 10-15 euros per person. i think the most expensive thing will be the airplane..but maybe you can find a good deal.
trekking..you come to the right place..check the levada walks..most of them are beautifull!!! outside Funchal (capital city) you will find a lot of great villages each one with their on traditions...in august we have the Arraias, this are the villages partys..everyone from all parts of the islands goes there..music, hangout on the streets, drink poncha (traditional drink from Madeira) and have a good time throught the night.
people in madeira are super friendly..safety everywhere..they love to talk to tourist because we depend on tourist :)
any questions i am here to hep!

Island + August + flight required = not for those on a budget.

Also, no beaches.

Madeira is a world class destination. While it gets fewer tourists than the Spanish islands, tourism is the main industry, the island is quite small (5 times smaller than Mallorca), cost of living is pretty high versus what you'd get in Portugal itself.

I think your best bet may actually be to get a package tour.

Hello Alesita,
Here you have an online Madeira islands Guide: http://madeira.best/guide/ where you can know more about the island history, gastronomy... etc.

Madeira isn't expensive at all, you can find low cost accommodations and also low cost places to eat all around the island (avoid touristic areas in Funchal, there are more expensive).

For 10 days stay and if you love Nature and Trekking i advise you to make some Walks on the Levadas, Jeep Tours and also Canyoning. You can also try some boat tours.

You can check the Madeira Activities Guide: http://madeira.best/guide/activities/ where you find more about each activity and also a possible of choose from different tours providers if you want "guided tours". With http://madeira.best you can book online activities while your are staying in Madeira.

I suggest you also to rent a car or a scooter to go around the island, it's the easier way.
Regards,
Carlos
