Shortly we will be spending a long weekend in Lisbon to celebrate a birthday. Can anyone help us with restaurant recommendations.

Where is unmissable? Where is happening?

We are keen to experience Portuguese cuisine and like a traditional environment with a good, buzzy ambience and great food. Like everybody does I suppose.... Good wine too - and maybe some help in choosing it.

One further question - we will be in Lisbon from Friday evening to Sunday night - not very long. Would people recommend a trip to Sintra or is that something we should leave til our next visit or when we have more time?

Grateful for any tips and direction. We are looking forward to our visit very much.

Agree with #1 on Sintra..a nice place, but you have more than enough to see and do in Lisbon with that short a time.

Personally I feel Sintra is a must even if you're only 3 days in Lisbon. But of course Lisbon does deserve two or three days to do it justice. The main areas to go is the Belem district and around the castle. At night, Chiado and Bairro Alto.
For good Portuguese food, I like As Salgadeiras and Solar dos Presuntos although those are a little higher-priced than most restaurants in town (although at around the average prices of most other European capitals). For a good list of Portuguese cuisine restaurants see: Lisbon Restaurants

As for wine, I like the reds from the Alentejo region and the whites from the north (Douro).
Enjoy and happy birthday!
