Hi there,
We are going to portugal at the beginning of July for 2 weeks with our then 10 month old baby. We plan to spend most of the time in Algarve (ie more than a week), then maybe finish off in/around Lisbon for a few days.

We dont want to move around much because of the baby, so we will look at renting ONE apartment and doing day trips from there. What town or area would you suggest as a good base, in the Algarve?

Just so you know , wE like nature, beautiful scenery, hiking, beaches, historic villages and good food - but I'm sure we will find all that! :)

Thank you very much!

Hi,

I would suggest central algarve so you can easily tour either east or west coast from there. I live in Loulé which is for example really close to any major roadway, airport etc. You can do a lot of day trips to islands, beaches etc. so you don't need to move around a lot. If you have any questions, let me know!

Check Airbnb for listings, there are some really reasonable offerings on there for a 'homebase'.

Yay!! Great suggestions! And thanks lovept for the earlier post. That one hadn't come up and it's exactly what I'm looking for :)

I'm liking the idea of the Calvoeiro area and doing day trips from there. We can manage an hour drive to visit the west and the east...
The Alentejo area sounds awesome, though not sure I'll be able to fit it in this time.

On to more planning! :)
