-when you arrive to porto,it is important to take from the counter of tourism office a city map and metro map.
You find a metro station at the airport.

If you plane to stay some days in porto,it is interesting to buy in metro counter a pass "ANDANTE"valid for metro,bus and trams.It cost 3 eur.a day.Ask also for the booklet"rotas touristicas".
-There is a funicular enter the high of city center and cais riberira: from rua de augustto rosa at ponte louis I et return.

For small budget,this is a formulat not expensive:
take a combined dish (whithout entry), composed by salade,vegetable end meat:
rosted sardines,or bacalao fish or sea breem or rosted chiken....etc....
In portugal,usualy in restaurant ,the waiter put over your table,bread,butter,cheese,olives..and other.
Be careful,it is not free.if you don't like it,you say to the waiter to take it of.

SAFETY:
no probleme but be careful in the metro when it is full ,in the evening in the narrow street of ribeira quarter, around sao beneto station and the cathedral.
