Hello,

I have just booked a flight to Portugal from June 30 til July 9th and I have not booked anything else yet! I hope it is not too late...

We are a couple and planning to spend about 3 nights in Lisbon, then Sintra, Obidos and also Evora.

1 ) Can anyone recommend a pleasant place to stay that is well-located in Lisbon, Sintra and Evora. Our budget would be less than 40€. We don't mind sharing the bathroom.

2) Do you recommend renting a car for visiting Sintra or is a one-day trip from Lisbon enough to visit the town and the surrounding park?

Any other tips welcome.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Hi,
I stayed at the Residencial Alegria last November. €35 - £27 per night B&B single occupancy in a twin room. Nice large rooms with lovely old polished floorboards. Excellent value! Apparently a lot of prostitutes and winos hang around in the small garden at the front (didn’t see any, but then again wasn’t looking!) but the hotel is right next to the police station so it felt very safe as did the rest of Lisbon. Stroll across the garden and right in front of you is the Hot Clube de Portugal for a top night of impromptu. jazz. Decent buffet breakfast. Loved it. Good luck.

If you have the time you won't get bored in Sintra if you stay overnight, but you could do it as a daytrip from Lisbon as well. No need to rent a car, there are regular suburban trains from Rossio station in Lisbon (around 40 minutes one way) to Sintra, from the station you can take a bus that makes a loop around the main sights.

Sorry, forgot to mention. Use the train for Sintra. It’s cheap and once there Sintra is very walkable and in my opinion doable in a day.
