How far are the beaches from the main township of Faro?

For the beaches in Faro you walk down through the town (not that big) to the beach. Portugal does not have much in the way of beaches. You can get a bus (remember to put your ticket in the machine on the bus to get it "clipped" so it cannot be used again. A fine if you don't) along the coast to other beaches to the west which are also not that great.
If you get bored, consider a day tour of Seville. Check temperature first though as it can get very HOT in the middle of summer.
