Hi there, I'm wondering if there are any travelers out there who have visited Azores with a baby? My baby just turned a month old and we're looking to take him there in November, he'll be about 6 months then.

I'm seeking advice from experienced travelers - was it easy to get around with a baby? Were activities (hiking, whale watching) on the islands baby friendly?

Thanks in advance!

I did whale watching in the Azores and don't think it is something for a baby. The boats have to look for the whales and move at high speeds and then beat upon the waves. For a grown up person it is OK, because s/he understands what causes the bumpy ride and what it is for, but a baby can't do a thing, will not understand it and find it just very unpleasant.
Hiking is a different story, because it is the parents, who determine the amount of uncomfortability.

Hi jjjoejr,

As Liberat says, the whale-watching is definitely not for little babies.
Regarding the hiking, I think you can do it. There are a lot around the island (like 40 or more) and some of them are really simple, just plain walks to enjoy the amazing nature landscapes.

If you need some accomodation, I can recommend you two places:

-www.livingazores.com: where there are amazing houses to rent in sao miguel island
-tresquartoshostel.com: a really cozy and cheap hostel in ponta delgada (sao miguel) city center

best regards, and ask something if you have doubts. I'm living in Ponta Delgada in Sáo Miguel and would love to help.

Best,
cris

Hi there, I see lots of visitors with children here on my island Faial, specifically in Horta. Every visitor I spoke with looked happy and so did their children. As far as whale watching, there were a few babies on on the boats, but your trip is in November, not the ideal month for whales or boating for that matter.
car rental companies have child seats, many private apartments supply baby beds and strollers. Faial is very child friendly with many parks and a small zoo. Children are very welcome to all restaurants, not like in North America.
If you need help while you are on Faial, I would be happy to help. I am the island expert here.
take care, Zelda

My husband and I are also considering a trip to Azores, with our 11-month-old in June. We don't speak any Portuguese (only English, French and Spanish); would that be an issue? We would also like to find out how easy it would be to get to a hospital in case something were to happen to the baby or if he were to get sick. Any guidance would be helpful, thanks!

Best,
Jennifer
