hello,

I have searched the internet and some guide books for information about The Azores. But have not found any practical information.

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I would like to travel to The Azures as cheap as i can. Does anyone have any tips or information? I think the best way would be to fly to Lisbon on easyjet and then travel on a cheap airline to a place in Azures. what is the cheapest airline?

Also, I was wondering what sort of prices I would be expected to pay for a room in a house or hostel room. and how much does food cost? i've heard it is quite expensive.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks,

Kevin

There seems to be only one company that flies to the azores: Grupo Sata. From a quick check I got the idea that a roundtrip will cost you at least 200 euro. They fly from Lisbon (frequently) and also from Oporto. On the day I checked there was only one flight from Oporto, leaving at appr. 13.30.
I can not help you with your other questions. We were there about three years ago, but then had an all-in arrangement. I seem to recall that eating was not extremely expensive, if you chose the right places.

Azores sounds nice. It sounds more of a charter destination, even if "wild tourists" dont come to your mind when you think about the islands .... so maybe you want a package tour rather than book flight and hotels seperately?

I think TAP Air also flies from Lisbon to the Azores. We did not go there so that's the extent of the advice I can give.

I checked with harefares.com and the only company it came up with was Sata Group. I agree, that it seems kind of strange that the national carrier would not fly between Lisbon and the Azores. According to the web-site of Sata Group, they fly to most if not all of the islands.

Thanks alot for all your replies, it's really helped me.

Does anyone know have any information about prices of things you need everyday. such as a sandwich from a cafe, a room in a house per night in san miguel and a bottle of beer?

Thanks,

Kevin

There are no cheap flights to the Azores, from Europe its either SATA (the main carrier, also for inter-island flights) or TAP. International flights go into Sao Miguel and Terceira island.
The Azores are fantastic islands, very varied and incredibly green (makes Madeira look drab!). Definitely not a charter destination,
There are hostels, check out http://www.pousadasjuvacores.com/index_en.php Hotel costs, look at http://www.azoreschoice.com/ for guidance. Apartments, example is http://www.casavitoriana.com/ Other prices are ok, you can eat and drink fairly cheaply at local bars and restaurants. For islands views check out
