Hello,

I have 5 full days based in Lisbon at the end of May. I love architecture, history, and scenery (in that order). Food too of course!

Will spend one day in Evora for sure. Is it worth it to go to Porto? I do like port wine. Is Sintra worthwhile? I recall seeing a photo of a castle (can't recall which one), which looked kind of cool but perhaps not a must-see. Are the gardens worthwhile?

I will be taking trains to get around. Any info on how long the train rides will be to Evora and Porto from Lisbon? Sintra is apparently about 1/2 hour away by car. I want to have enough time in Lisbon, is 3 days enough?

Thanks!

3 days for Lisboa is suffice, but only you will know if it is enough. It is an easy going city.

You definitely can do day trip to Evora from Lisboa. Sintra is a great little town, like a fairy tale town with the castle at the top. It may worth a night or two there. The coast there offers a great scene too.

Porto is comparatively further north and may worth at least a night if you go there.

If you're looking for easy holiday trip, I'd skip Porto, focus on Lisboa, Sintra, the coast there, and Evora.

With 5 days, I would stay the whole time in Lisbon with perhaps a day trip to Sintra. No need for a car -- there is a commuter train from Rossio station. If I remember correctly, it takes about half an hour.

There is a lot of great architecture, small streets, views over the river, squares, etc in Lisbon. if you want to get away for a few hours, you can also take a commuter train to Cascais and walk along the coast. Or go to see the Belem tower and the Jeronimos monastery -- tram #15. No need to spend hours to go to Evora and Porto with so little time.

Thanks for the advice! It sounds like I should skip Porto this time. Maybe go to Sintra too.

You can spend two days in Lisbon, followed by third day as day trip to Sintra. For the remaining two days you could go to Evora. That would be nice for a change - a smaller city where you can relax strolling around.
There are trains and busses to Evora and it's an easy trip that takes 1.5 hour. Trains (regional) are frequent and depart from Oriente station where you can get by metro line.
Porto is a bit farther away, about 3 hrs by fast train.
