Another Ryanair cheap flight took me to Faro in the afternoon, took the airport bus downtown for less then 2 €, you can find them on your left hand site, there is an official stop, I booked into Pensaõ Madalena in Faro , also the safe time, 1-person room small but clean 30 €, OK just 1 min. from the bus station. Changed clothes and went outside, short visit to the old center, nobody there....back in time it felt, then the ferry to one of the island with Farol lighthouse, again a back-in-time feeling. Stayed a bit, wondered around, felt the ocean felt COLD, back with the ferry and walked around the old city in the evening, nice relaxing atmosphere but nothing for partying tourists. Came home, lot of streetnoise outside, party? Bar ? Plugged in my' noisebreakers....'

At 7 in the train to Lagos, nice, cool saw something of the countryside arrived around 9, walked around a bit in the old center, somewere left from the trainstaion, bought some bread, cheese, fruit and water and found the nice Sta. Ana beach, that one with that advertisement picture, red rocks thing, very nice, had my picknick and my swim, again so cold the ocean, then walked the town again for a while, back in train to Faro, windows open makes it cool... slept a bit in the train..arrived in Faro and had about 30 min, for the next journey to Tavira, as the pensao is close by I could change clothes quickly. Train to Tavira which lays to the other side, nice old town, interesting. Did my wonder around there also around the river, did my shopping at Lidl= cheap supermarket next to the train station had Pizzal some place. back to Faro to sleep. I feel happy and satisfied for the things I did and saw.....a lot but that is me, travelling,..

Next morning early wake-up to walked around Faro, interesting again the old town and the storks nests on top of walls and churches, visit the cathedral with the bone chapel !!!! then airport again.

Loved this short visit, did a lot and saw a lot and on such moments I live my life.......of course it depends what you are looking for and in my case that is walking, seeing things, visit some local supermarket, find out things etc. I am 61 years, travel on my own and hate to sit in restaurants on my own, so this suits me perfectly well......

Try a flight to Alicante in November or early December. Benidorm is a 10-12 euro shuttle ride away from the airport to your accommodation. Benidorm is easy to walk around, though there is a fair bit of it. Lots of places to eat, drink and be entertained. No yobs. People who go there will tell you it's reputation is undeserved.

I had 10 days there from 5 Dec till 15 Dec last year and had 8 days of great weather (2 with rain), which was a lot better than back home. People were sunbathing. I took the train along the coast to Altea, Calpe and Denia as well as Alicante town for very little money.

I had a kitchenette but it's so cheap that mostly I ate out. A number of cheap supermarkets around town as well as a Mercadona in the middle of town. 30 euros will get you a good room. I think I paid 23 euros a night for my hotel room which was very nice.
