Dear all,

we will be 3 full days in Faro (4 nights) at end of May and I was wondering if it is worth to rent a scooter, considering also that it is needed to go to Albufeira to get one.

The idea stems because it would be nice to see the many different spots scattered along the coast / region.
For example Lagoa cave; or Tavira; or Castro Marim (still didn't decide what to visit and it will maybe be a last minute decision)

My question is therefore if it is fairly easy and acceptably fast to travel to all the little gems of Algarve using public transport; or whether a scooter would really make quite a difference.

thank you for your opinions!

A scooter's fine, as long as you've dumped all your luggage somewhere for the day and will just be with a small day pack while out riding it.

Learn to say 'Thank you' in the local language.
The natives like that.

You can take a bus from Faro to Tavira, a train from Faro to Lagos, so too me not really worth it but it is something you enjoy then go for it. If you do have to go to Albufeira to collect the scooter the train station is miles away from the town. Also bear in mind the roads are not exactly in tip top condition. I am sure that you could find scooter hire in Faro though.

Buses in the Algarve are on the whole good and keep to a good time http://www.algarvebus.info/notes.htm
