Um, I think that's what she's trying to prevent.

How can any parent allow their children to use drugs? You must be completely mad

Then 80% of parents in the world are mad for allowing their children to use alcohol.

Kids will do what they want any way, and no controlling mother can change that.

yeah, The Devil, you are so perfect, you even moved out of this hedonistic hell hole we call home, the Netherlands. If you hate it and us so much, why bother reading and replying to this branch? Don't you have better things to do, you perfect being?

@manny2010: if your daughter is a sensible person, as most people are, she will be fine. Sure, she might try some drugs, or not, but she certainly won't be returned to you as some strung out junkie ;-)

the percentage of youngsters (wow, makes me feel old to use this word, haha!) trying (soft) drugs a couple of times is higher in the US than in the Netherlands and we have the lowest percentage of heroin addicts in Europe. France, the only European country with an active 'war on drugs' has the highest and is the only country in Europe with a serious crack problem.

France has problems with drugs, no doubt about that, but the hightest in Europe? I'm not too sure. Reports I've read usually put Switzerland, Portugal and Spain as the three Western European countries with the highest percentage of hard drug users.

mokum your remark of ops daughter not returning as a junky is totally stupid, she might very well return as a drug addict after trying out all the drugs widely available in Amsterdam it's exactly the reason why I come back here and keep warning people about the totally idiotic laws in The Netherlands

#16 / TheDevil, well you might find those laws idiotic but can you explain to me why way more French (and American) people than Dutch smoke pot, and why I saw everyone around me in the UK using speed, cocaine, XTC and what have you, mixing it with beer too, whereas this is much less common in the Netherlands? I think OP's daughter is better off in the Netherlands than in the UK.

If the daughter would have wanted to try addictive drugs like cocaine and all that, she probably has done so already in her home country. It's not like it's easier to buy over here.

I'll just point out that there's a green star at the head of this thread :-))

I agree. While it's possible that the daughter becomes a junky in Amsterdam, the relevant question here is whether the risk is greater than in other places. No matter where you are, some people become junkies and most people don't.
