Im going to Amsterdam with a friend at the end of March for the weekend.
I want to stay in a cool creative area such as the equivalent of Shorditch in London or Galata in Istanbul. Any reccomendations on area and hotel also!

The Jordaan neighbourhood, maybe? It might be a bit expensive but that´s true of most parts of central Amsterdam.

Yeah De Jordaan is probably nice. De Pijp is also nice... more of a student area.

Other creative areas... Haarlemmerstraat (edge of Jordaan), Utrechtsestraat, Westerpark (the park itself and all its bars... for example Westergasterras)... there is a tiny hotel very near Westerpark: www.windketel.nl</a>.

And perhaps I shouldn't say this being an Amsterdammer :-) , but actually Rotterdam is much more creative and innovative (in a rough, modern way). So if you have time then definitely spend a day there. It's a 50 minute train ride from Amsterdam. The Photo Museum is great (and have lunch or cake at Hotel New York afterwards), Witte de Withstraat is a really nice street, and just wander around the city center, cross the Erasmus bridge, have drinks in Oude Haven (Old Harbour).
Rotterdam also has a hostel in the weird cubic houses.

I was just staying in De Pijp area and it's getting pricy.
I know a total of two (2) cool creative people in Amsterdam and they stay in Oud West

Jordaan or De Pijp, I think you're more likely to find accommodation in Jordaan.

If you're lucky the Chic and Basic Hotel would be a good location, but there's a range of accommodation around including houseboats.
