Mrs Raki bought a ticket from Oz to Amsterdam, return from Paris today with KLM and was surprised to find that amongst all the taxes and charges she had also been hit with a 'Solidarity Tax'.

What is a 'Solidarity Tax', and who are these airline passengers, including Mrs Raki, in solidarity with?

Mrs Raki hopes that she is not just giving her hard-earned money to socialists!

Have a look here: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/31519928/Solidarity-Tax
A quick look gave me the impression that it is a French initiative and probably applies only for flights ending or originating in France. Therefore the tax has to be paid, because she leaves from Paris.

French former president Chirac, now awaiting court for all kind of allegations, introduced this tax in 2006.
In Liberat´s link you can read the whole story.

I´m not surprised one of the allegations against Chirac is becoming secretly a socialist when older and wiser.
There´s still hope for you, Mr. Raki..

I just hope that Mr Sarkozy tells those crooks he plans to give foreign aid to that Mrs Raki has put in a few dollars towards his largesse!
