Hi,

My company are sending me to Rozenburg in August for 3 weeks (8th till 26th) and I would like to explore the area a bit on my days off. I get the impression that the local area is heavily industrialised so I would like to know if there are any "scenic" areas I could get to by train quite cheaply ?
I would like to know if :
- there are any interesting events happening during those dates, eg, festivals, exhibitions, etc.
- any interesting guided tours,eg, by bike
- any interesting courses in cookery, art, etc

Im really quite open to any suggestions as I know nothing about this country !
Thankyou for your comments,
Sylvana

Good afternoon Sylvana,

It´s industrialised, yes, this part of NL belongs to the second biggest port in the world.
But Rotterdam with many events and the beach are at hand.

You are almost at walking distance from the Brielse Meer for a swim, A really nice recreational area.
Rockanje for the beach and a short ferry-ride to Maassluis will connect you to the railway to Rotterdam.

I think renting a bike will give you tons of possibilities, e.g. the pretty rural road to Delft. No need for guided tours (I don't know about them), a map and the well signposted cyclepaths will do.

Other nearby destinations;
- historical small town Brielle|
- flower auction in Naaldwijk
- you need (almost) a day for this by bus: storm surge barrier
It's typical Dutch and the bustrip itself is worthwhile.

So sending you to Rozenburg by your company in August is actually a bonus (IMO;-)
Have a good time!

There's also a Rozenburg near Schiphol Airport - also in a heavily industrialized area, by the way. Which Rozenburg will you be going to?

Thanks for your comments so far. Sorry, I hadn't realised there were two Rozenburgs. It's the one near Rotterdam.

No worries, honestly I hadn't realized there was a second Rozenburg near Rotterdam either...

Now I know I missed your Schiphol /Rozenburg, aribo. Sometimes I am flickering with my eyes (is this right English by the way???)
