Can you walk to the Rhine River Cruise berths from Centraal Station in under 15-20 minutes?
Provided the ship's berth is at De Ruijterkade: yes, you can.
Some ships dock at Ruijterkade west, some at Ruijterkade east, central station is in the middle. Both can be walked in about 10 minutes. In the odd case your ship is docked at Westerdoksdijk, count on 20 minutes.
The Rhine River is right outside the front door of Amsterdam Centraal. 30 second walk from your train platform me thinks !! :)
Many thanx- I looked at a map and there was this big expanse of water beside the Railway Station.
I thought it may have been the Rhine but it all went off into islands, and had different names..............

The Rhine flows nowhere near Amsterdam: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rhein-Karte.png].
The body of water that's outside Amsterdam Centraal (I'm tempted to think it's right outside the back door of the station, by the way) is the IJ.

Hmmm, the link in #5 disappeared somehow. Anyway, the mouth of the Rhine is at Hoek van Holland, near Rotterdam, with a branch (called "Oude Rijn") flowing through Leiden and emptying into the North Sea close to Katwijk.
So long as Mrs Raki can walk to the cruise berth, I'm not sure she will be too worried about the name of the water- 'Its some river in Amsterdam' she'll say to anyone who asks when they are looking at her photos when she comes back.

Hi Raki Man,
Head towards the exit that is near Platform 15. When you come off a train (from the Airport) you will actually have to go down some stairs with your bags (unless there is a lift which I didn't see). Forewarned is forearmed! Then it should be to your left, anyway it is the Noord/Boot towards the waterfront. If you and Mrs Raki have a lot of bags you may want to take a taxi but it is not that far away, and I do not know what the availability of taxis are. Depends how tired you are and how long you have traveled to get there! Tiredness makes everything seem that much harder.
