Hello, hoping for some advice about locations for Amsterdam apartment rentals. We have visited the city before (and love it) but we've always stayed in apartments on /near the main canal belt. These have been great but (a) they can be expensive and (b) they often involve steep stairs which one of our group will find difficult.

We have found details of a ground-floor apartment on a street called Weteringschans. It seems very reasonably priced given it's well located for many sights and amenities, so we are wondering if there is any reason it wouldn't be a good street to stay in - noisy ? traffic ? ugly ? any other problems ? In other words why the good price or are we just paranoid??? Thanks for any thoughts.

It is not that ugly but it is probably a bit noisy, but I think you'll be fine. Indeed it is a great location and close to many places of interest, for example the studenty area called De Pijp and its Albert Cuyp market, the Heineken brewery, Rijksmuseum, Vondelpark, Museumplein, Paradiso disco and Leidseplein, Hermitage museum, Waterlooplein flea market, FOAM photo museum and such. And the canal belt. All this is within walking distance. If you want to go further, you'll have tram stops right on your doorstep.

Thanks for that, Cecilia. As you say, it's really well located but I guess not on one of the pretty streets. But we've stayed on them before, and as this won't be our first trip that doesn't matter too much.

I don't usually spend much time in my hotel anyway apart from sleeping and maybe breakfast, and even then the inside is more important than the look of the street it's in. Have fun!
