You posted the same question a few hours ago, in reply to which I asked you if you could indicate what price range you are looking for. All you did is post exactly the same question again, how can I give a suggestion then? I can't read your mind and tell what you mean by "too much", though I suppose the only hotel that's actually on Dam square, Krasnapolsky, is way out of your budget range.

Rembrandtplein Hotel - 5 minute walk to Dam Square (through the red-light district if it bothers you/is a plus). €90/night - so well under your budget. Used to be a brothel (don't worry, not anymore) - there's still mirrors on the ceiling of some rooms.

It gets some shitey reviews - because it doesn't have a lift! But I've just booked there for next year - so it better be good. Has a bar too.

Sorry OP but what does "350 max for the 3 nites" mean? Are we talking €, $, £ or what here?

I like the Rho- a little more than EUR 100 double/night but way under 100 Pounds. It's very close to Dam Square but on a quiet side street.

Walking from the Rembrandtplein Hotel to Dam Square takes you near the Red Light District (about 2 blocks away) not through it.

The only place I’d ever stay in Amsterdam is the rooms and apartments the Greenhouse Effect rent out. Good price, the best views, quirky and cool rooms with breakfast included. Most are over the street from the coffee shop in a building that you have your own front door key for so it feels like you have your own place. Check out the web site to see the crazy room photos!! Totally cool.

You might be lucky enough to find a room at the Cornerhouse. €80 for doubles. Very popular, due to low price/proximity of the Dam/cleanliness. Family-run.
