Hi.

I live in Utrecht, and my family is visiting soon :) They would really like to have "rijsttaffel", and I am therefore looking for a restaurant that serves a really good version of it. Preferably in Utrecht or close by, as we would need to use public transportation or walk to get there.
Any of you that have experiences or recommendations worth sharing? The price range is less important, as the dinner is one them :p

Thanks in advance.

Try "Paradijs", Vredenburg 28. Across the buslane from the Vredenburg theater.
One of the best Chinese Indo restaurants in town.

Not expensive either.

#1 Paradijs is really a Chinese restaurant, not Indonesian, I wouldn't go there for Indonesian food. They do really good Dim Sum, though (although don't count on friendly service)!

They used to serve an excellent rijsttafel at Pomo on the Twijnstraat. There is still a Pomo restuarant on the Voorstraat, so you could try that.

I've also heard nice things about Blauw on the Springweg. It's an Indonesian restaurant in a modern setting.

Gouden Kom at Damstraat is my favorite (but I always get take out), the big Chinese restaurant at Amsterdamsestraatweg (next to Julianapark) is good for eating out so I've heard. I think bus #3 stops close to it.

It's indeed 'rijsttafel' ;-) And remember: If you are with 4 persons, order a rijsttafel for 2... you'll still be burried in food ;-)

Do it like chinese people. Example, 5 peoples order 5 different meal and put it in the middle of the table. Everybody of them can make his special dinner.

as suggested by some people, rijsttafel is an Indonesian (or rather, Dutch-indies) meal.
I'd be very wary of having one in a Chinese or one of the Netherlands' ubiquitous 'chin-ind' (Chinese-Indonesian) restaurants.

try and find a proper Indonesian resto. Unfortunately i don;t know any in Utrecht but Amsterdam and The Hague have quite a few.

Dutch people obviously mix up Indonesian and Chinese, or even Suriname food (Pomo). The best real Indonesian rijsttafel I know in Utrecht is served at Selamat Makan, Voorstraat 100.

Oops, I just read that Selamat Makan has a new owner and isn't as good anymore. In that case try Blauw, but remember to make reservations.

Is Pomo Suriname? Wow, I really thought it was Indonesian, sorry OP! Weird, I still remember having a really good rijsttafel at the old Pomo in de Twijnstraat years and years ago.
And of course I know the difference between Suriname food, Chinese food and Indonesian food (see my first reply in this post). Just an honest mistake, so I really don't think there's any need to be condescending LexVander.
