I shall be visiting Amsterdam with my wife and 2 children during summer next year. Can someone suggest a reasonable family accomodation near the central station in the range of about Euro 60 for a double or Euro120 for a Quad. Thanking in advance. Amit

just 1 remark: dont know places, I live nearby so no need for, but with kids do NOT stay ''near'' CS-rec nr 1 is in fact not nearby either, though you did not specify what nearby means to you-any place has a metro or tram nearby.
And specify what ''family'' means for you-if you re USAer they often have such idiot perceptions-and then get mad if an answer does not fit in

The CS area is not that great - why do you particularly want to stay there? Most of A'dam has easy access to the tram system so you are better off staying in a more pleasant area. The bits with hotels near CS tend to be very shabby and full of drunk or stoned young tourists (certainly at weekends)

I agree with #3. Is there any particular reason you want to stay in that area? It's where the red light district is, and lots of coffeeshops, drunk tourists & stag night groups, pickpockets, etc. It's not particularly unsafe but it's one of the ugliest parts of the city.

Within that price range you'll probably end up in a hostel, try StayOkay Amsterdam Vondelpark. They may have private rooms for 4, not sure though. Other hotels that are often recommended in the Thorn Tree are Hotel Brouwer, Hotel Rembrandt, Hotel Brian.

Also do a search.

Hotel Brian. € 30 per person for a double, breakfast included. Book well ahead of time.

You might get lucky through Priceline: I have read reports in another travel forum that hotels like the Prins Hendrik ended up being ridiculously cheap when booked through that website.

I personnally stay at Stayokay Stadsdoelen hostel (in a dorm) every time I am in Amsterdam. Within 10 minutes walk from Centraal Station, very good location, very decent breakfast included.
