Hey y'all,
Tom & Katie stole our idea to get married in Italy! For those of you out there who also jumped in on this great idea, how did you plan? Where did you go? How did you find great villas to stay/ get married in? We're envisioning a simple get-together of about 25 people, lotsa pasta, red wine & Tuscan/ Umbrian sunsets. Any ideas? We're planning from California, so any advice, etc. will be much appreciated! :D
Thanks,
Bisous

Hi
My fiance and I (from Scotland) are getting married in a small village Tuscany in 4 weeks time and have 24 guests, lotsa pasta and red wine!!!! We planned it through www.originaltuscanwedding.com. The company is run by 2 women who have lived in Tuscany for years. Through email they've been very helpful with everything: ceremony venue, hotels, reception, music etc and most importantly the legal documentation which can be a nightmare.
If you need any more info I'd be happy to help.

We arranged a wedding in August last year in a small Tuscan village for clients. We organised the accommodation for them and their guests (they too had around 25 people), the ceremony itself and all the trimmings (including photographer, hairdresser and florists!). They all stayed in one of our villas with private swimming pool for a week, and the reception was an open-air affair in the garden of the villa. We arranged for a local chef to come and cook for them, and everyone could eat, drink and be merry without having to worry about driving.
There is a lot of information on the web about the legal documentation required, and my client organised this herself with no problems through the British Consulate in Florence .
The sun shone, it was a wonderful occasion, and costs were kept down through our network of personal local contacts in Italy. It was a privilege for everyone to be involved in my clients' 'big day'.
If you would like more information or guidance please let me know.

I attended a wedding about a year ago in Rome (leading indirectly to me taking up residence in Sicily!) and my mate said that the best decision he took was getting a wedding planner.
He also made a few trips to Rome, but Dublin-Rome isn't that far! I would suggest at least 1 trip beforehand (6 months before?) to check out the venues, church, colours etc. etc.
All the legal stuff you should be able to sort out yourself. If you're planning a Catholic ceremony there's rules and regs for the church too involving references from your parish priest, pre-marital courses etc.

All the posters point you into the right direction re wedding in Italy.
It's very important that you deal with the complicated legal requirements properly and in time, or there is no wedding. While some people do everything themselves to save money, it's only recommended if you are fluent in Italian and are able to make several prior visits to Italy. The use of a local wedding planner is highly recommended and you probably find their fees money well spent for all the headaches you will avoid. There is a list of recommended planners in Santa Susanna, American RC parish in Rome.
Lovely people. You couldn't go wrong having your wedding there and renting out their apartments. Their wines are fabulous.http://www.ilpoggio.net/</a>

Thanks you guys! These are all great ideas. And if I have to take a trip to Italy before the wedding, well darn, I guess a bride's gotta do what she's gotta do :D
Take care & happy trails!

We were at this castle Il Palagio just near Greve in Chianti and they were preparing for a wedding. It looked to be a spectacular setting.
Here is the site http://www.castelloilpalagio.it/main_e.html click on wedding to see some photos. The set up when we saw it was even more beautiful in person than in those photos.

A little off topic, but if anyone knows of someone needing a wedding photographer in Italy any time in the next year, feel free to get in touch. My rates are really comparable and photos can be viewed at www.jlauren.smugmug.com
Cheers!
