I'll be arriving in Venice at Sta. Lucia station, in the morning near the end of April. What are the chances of finding reasonably priced accommodation (1 night, 2 people) just by wandering around and looking? How about people at the train station offering rooms - is that a good idea or are they overpriced?
Thanks for you help.

there is a tourist info booth at the station.they should be able to book you some accomodation.

All of the best value places book in advance. If you do find someplace by just showing up (and sometime, you can't) it will probably either be not very good or overpriced.

If you look for accomodation nearby St Lucia, good luck for cheap or reasonable price. I have been to Venice 3 times and haven't found anything reasonable in the island. The best is to stay in mainland.
My favourite place is Alba D’Oro Camping (nice and rather new, shared cabin with three, shower, ~€16.50/night, free ~30-minute shuttle to/fro Venice; don’t miss the reduced meal coupon when check-in)
For nice place in Venice mainland, consider Albergo Marin, ~€100/night, very friendly, <5 minutes walk to Santa Lucia, ask Gabriella for an excellent free Venice Map)
