Hi,
I've got to get from Palermo's main airport to Cefalu to meet up with some friends at a pre-arranged time . . .
I've been told that going by train will be the least hassle-free budget option, but would like to have an idea of how long that will take?
Can anyone tell me if any trains from Palermo airport will go straight to Cefalu without me having to change (and wait) at Palermo's Central Station? If so is there a specific train I'll need to ask for eg "Espresso" / "Rapido" etc?
If I do have to change at Palermo Central Station - are the connections regular? And any tips on times/platforms etc?
Yep - I know - I'm planning it to the smallest detail . . .
Cheers for any help.

No, you have to take the bus to Palermo station and catch a train there. There's no railway station at the airport. Trains are fairly regular, and take about an hour. Try ferrovie dellostato.it for timetables

Well Im afraid that the answer given by #1 above is a bit out of date - there is indeed a train to Palermo Airport from the Central station.
See here Palermo Airport
I used it myself about 3 years ago.

Yes, it's true. Strange, as I went last year.... Guess I must have just gone out and taken the bus as usual

see details on the train service here
trinacria express
if you click on the timetable link you will be directed to a pdf in italian that should be easy to understand: "punta raisi" is the airport stop, "palermo centrale" is where you are going, "lavorativo" means that the train does not run on sundays or public holidays, "festivo" means that it only runs on sundays and public holidays, if it says nothing that the train runs every day
you must buy your ticket before boarding the train (at a newsstand or other kiosk) and validate it at a machine on the platform that will stamp the date and time
