Hola,
Ill be in Rome in mid July and I have always had the dream of renting a vespa in Italy.
Is it worth renting a Vespa or should I just rent a cheaper type of scooter?
Any advice on where I could rent a Scooter/Vespa?
What paper work do they need? How much does it cost?
Any recomendations on where to ride around with a Vespa? Where to take a girlfriend for an unforgetable experience?
sorry for all the questions, but I would really appreciate any advice.
Best of Luck

Unforgettable experience? Yes, that's what it's going to be. Do you have any idea what the traffic in Rome is like? If yes, and if you know how to behave to save your neck, like the locals do, allright. If not, this is more or less an attempt to commit suicide.

Kathrine, I really appreciate your reply and concern for my safety... although,
Im from Mexico City and have been riding motorcycles since I was eight years old. I've had the chance to ride from Mexico all the way to Canada and back... How much worse can Rome be from Mexico? I think I can keep up with the locals.
I appreciate that you have plenty of experience of riding a scooter. Nevertheless, KathrinE makes a valid point. The traffic in Rome is very combative and very congested; they also have 'rules' of their own that you won't be familiar with. It would really make a mess of your holiday if you had an accident and got injured: as you know it's so easy to break a leg on a scooter if you're hit by a car.
Wait and see what the traffic is like before making any plans.

Riding a scooter is certainly the best way to see Roma, especially in july when it is so hot.
If you come from Mexico City, I think you won't have any problems with the traffic, not even in Napoli!
Vespa has small wheels, so it may be easier to slide with a Vespa than with another scooter with larger wheels. I have no idea as to where rent a scooter and how much does it cost. Have you tried with Google?
In Italy you need a licence even to derive the smallest scooter, so I imagine that some licence will be required.

aellaguno, no offence intended, but we've had too questions about scooter rides along the Amalfi coast etc. which seemed to come from people living in some small town in the quiet countryside, people who had absolutely no idea of the Italian style of driving. I've never been to Mexico City, so take this with a grain of salt, but I imagine the craziness of traffic to be similar. So if you know how to survive in Mexico City, you'll survive Rome as well.
