I'm looking to go to Italy in June and I have now, after much thought, narrowed my choices down to Rome and Bologna!

I will be a lone female traveler, which doesn't really impact my decision choice wise, but thought I'd mention it for reference.

I like the fact that Rome has lots and lots to see and do, Bologna seems to be more food and church filled than anything - but I'd like to hear some thoughts on what fellow travelers like about both places!

Rome could keep me occupied for two weeks (with day trips), even on a return visit, Bologna for a couple of days. Assuming that you like history (and you wouldn't be going to Rome if you didn't), the two don't really compare on an 'either/or' basis. Rome wins hands down.

Bologna does have a reputation as a foody venue, but IMHO food of equal quality is available in Rome.

How long is your trip for?

My trip is only for 4 days, so not overly long. It's a birthday treat to myself!

Rome is about 100 times more interesting than Bologna.

For most people anyway ;-)

What do you think would be better to visite Sheffield or London?

Well, regards, Sheffield has a great deal to offer so be careful about casting aspersions! But agree with the general view above, Rome without any doubt.

For Tillyhaines and regards' benefit, I am about 25 miles from Sheffield. It is an excellent centre, as well as a really nice city.

I did think this may be the case!

Bologna is a nice city, not so crowded as Rome will be in June. It's a good base for the gems around: Ravenna, Ferrara, Modena. Perfect for a short trip.
