Hello everyone, I have a few questions about a day trip to Pompeii and Vesuvius:
1) Are Pompeii and Vesuvius open on Monday?
2) If we take the fast train from Rome to Napoli, how do we get to Pompeii from Napoli Centrale.
3) One in Pompeii, how do we get to Vesuvius?

Thanks

1) Are Pompeii and Vesuvius open on Monday?

Yes.

2) If we take the fast train from Rome to Napoli, how do we get to Pompeii from Napoli Centrale.

You need to transfer to the Circumvesuviana line, details here. Get off at Pompei Scavi station.

3) One in Pompeii, how do we get to Vesuvius?

Get back on the train and go to Ercolano station, where there are minibuses to take you up the mountain.

IMHO Pompeii and Vesuvius is too much to attempt in a single day, especially if you're starting so far away. You need most of a day at Pompeii. Vesuvius is better saved for a separate day, and combined with the ruins of Herculaneum.

As above. It will be a long and expensive day.

Train to Naples,Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii.See some of the (large)site. Then train to Ercolano.Minibus up the mountain, have a look.

Then minibus down, train to Naples, train back to Rome.Start early, and your time will be limited both in Pompeii and on Vesuvius.

I think Pompeii-Vesuvius Summit in a day from Rome and return, is borderline crazy. Is this the only option you have? Can't steal a day from somewhere else?

If I remember, this OP has a few days in Rome.Of which this "day trip"is taking one...

..and has already been advised to substitute Pompeii with Ostia Antica.Presumably not interested.

I've not been to the rim of Mt Vesuvius, but IMO Pompeii was only just average-ordinary ... and not really worth the effort from Naples, let alone Rome. I would look at Ostia Antica, Herculaneum perhaps if there's time, and the villas at Tivoli, myself.

But I can only provide advice - I can't force anyone to take it.

It is physically doable, even from Rome - people do it. But it's not recommended. Half a day each for Vesuvius and Herculaneum, and most of another day for Pompeii, would be far better.

Perhaps that's because so many of the smaller artefacts from Pompei are now in the Archarological Museum in Naples. Anyone wanting to learn about life 2000 years ago really needs to see both. Pompei only becomes aluve if yoy can "see" the buildings and people who were around at the time.
Incidentally, if OP goes to Pompei, note it is open to whatever the weather is that day, boiling sun, pouring rain gales or whatever - there is no shelter at all.

And no water. This, along with protection from the elements, is essential for visitors.

Yes, seeing the main museum after visiting the excavations is highly recommended.
