Hi all - I'm a 23 y/o female from NYC, and will be in Sicily from Jun 25-Jun 28. I have travelled through most of mainland Italy - Rome, Florence, Siena, Venice, the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Ravello, Amalfi, Capri), and Cinque Terre, but have never been to Sicily. This is a last minute trip that I planned on the whim and I could really use help on 3 things -
1. Recommendations for accomodation (no hostels, but affordable hotels, and by affordable I mean that I don't need to stay at the Ritz Carlton, but something middle of the road - preferably something quaint, would be great). I would like to go out to restaurants and bars/clubs in the evening, so any recommendations as to where to stay that would allow me to do this, would be great as well!
2. Travel Companions - if anyone will be around during this time, definitely PM me, as I'd love some company. Also, if you are from Italy, and wouldn't mind having some company for dinner or drinks, drop me a message as well. One of the best things about travelling is getting out there and meeting new people! Don't you think?
3. Recommended Sights/Activities - I really only have 2 full days and 2 1/2 days in Sicily (I know its not much, but its all I could manage - and I'll take what I can get!). I know Sicily has great archaelogical finds, and that Mt. Etna is also a sight to see. I'm a runner - so wouldn't mind doing a hike around Mt. Etna (if this is an option for a group..). I also enjoy ruins and museums, so I'm pretty much open to anything and would like to hear opinions from people who have been there about what is not to miss.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond to this post!
I hope to hear from you soon...

Hi, I am Sandro from Palermo. I have seen your post right now (june 20) so probably you have yet decided where to stay, and booked the hotel.
Central Palermo is full of bar/pubs of different kinds. At moment my favourite is "The Rocket Bar", in Piazza San Francesco Di Paola, city center close to Politeama square, very easy to reach and find I think. consider that the local nightlife starts after 11pm/midnight, before that time most of the pubs and clubs are nearly empty. most of the premises in Palermo are very small, and basically when is crowded a lot of people drink in the streets. this especially between midnight and 2 am (the crowd peak!)
If you want to meet for a drink and linger around the city center a bit (I am free in the afternoon of june 26), or if you just want more specifical information about the city, send me an e-mail: ale_vaccina@yahoo.it
Hope you have a nice experience in Sicily.Bye!
