I am heading for Le Marche for 6 nights in August. The first three nights my boyfriend and I will be staying near Macerata, for the other three we thought we'd like to head to the mountains and do some walking in the Sibillini national park. Can anyone recommend either a town or specific hotel/guesthouse in the area? Our budget is pretty flexible so all suggestions would be welcome!

The place to be would be Castellucio which has breathtaking views, on a hill that sits over a high plain surrounded by mountains. We didnt spend a night there but would have liked to.

A nice city nearby (outside the mountains proper) is Ascoli Piceno. Its "piazza del popolo" is a must-see atrraction in the Marche. Go there several times in the afternoon and evening and you will understand... it is hands-down the town square with the best fengshui worldwide.

Do you have a car? If so, I would recommend the Marche side as well as the Umbrian side (Castelluccio). Amandola is a nice town.
