Hi all,
I am travelling with a gal pal of mine for a week in Italy. We have decided to do fly into Rome and spend 2-3 days trying to squeeze in the sights. We then plan to make our way to Florence for the rest of the trip.
1) Our flight back to Canada is from Frankfurt...to go back to Frankfurt would it be a better idea to take a flight from the Pisa airport (a cheap trip from Florence) or to head back to Rome from Florence (takes more time, the Eurostar is a bit more expensive, however the flight itself is significantly less)???
2) Any recommendations of any relaxation/beach spots not too far out of the way from Rome to Florence?
3) Any recommended hostels where my friend and I could share a private room.
4) Other helpful hints? MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

1) if the difference in price is not that much, I would go from Florence or Pisa. Fiumicino is a big airport (for italian standards) and you will less likely get delays in Florence/Pisa than in Rome.

2) Monte argentario.

4) don't try to see too much in too little time. enjoy Rome and Florence at a more leisurely pace. You won't regret it.

If you are in the Amalfi area. Go check out chris's place. Its cheap, has a huge kitchen, laundry and they take care of you especially on a budget. We paid 50euro for a private room with air conditioning and a great view. They also do camping for I think 10 a night. Send him an email, chrispilkit@hotmail.com or just call. 339 741 0902. You will love it. All under 1 roof. Mik.

We did all our hostel bookings through Hostelworld and found it very good. Read the reviews! very useful in decision making and tips on how to find the places. We also booked hostels close to the main train stations as this made moving about easier. Hostels in central areas are likely to be noisy. Our one in Florence was very noisy, didn't look like a main street but there seemed to be lots of enthusiastic drinkers around at night! Didn't do Rome. But definitely as above, don't try to do too much...we spent 3 days in Florence and only got a taste. Other recommendation...hop on, hop of bus. We used it first night we were there to do a tour and then next day knew where we wanted to visit and used this bus as our transport. We now do this in every city we go to to get our bearings.
