Hello,
I am currently trying to decide between doing the Alta Via 2 or the Haute route this summer with my boyfriend. We are both avid hikers and are incredibly excited for this to be our next trip-- but I am having a difficult time deciding between these two destinations. I am leaning towards Italy because it seems like the route may be slightly less crowded (just from what I've read online), and I definitely like to avoid crowds when possible. If anyone out there has done them both, I would be very grateful for any input!!!
Which Alta Via 2: Courmayeur - Champorcher or Sant Andrae (Brixen) - Pedavena (Feltre)? As to the Haut eRoute I suppose you mean the so called "Walkers haute Route" Chamonix - Zermatt.
But why are you just looking for the most popular trails within the well signmarked network of panoramic alpine hiking trails (thousands of kilometers) if you don't like to meet other people every 5 minutes? I hike in the Alps since decades, usually on trails where I don't meet any human being for hours, even in high season.
Compose your own itinerary! The only thing you must know is to read maps and destinations on signposts.

Hi, have you walked AV2? If yes, can post your opinion about difficulty of stages marked as 3 or 3+ in cicerone guide. How difficult and how exposed were they for you? If you walked any other multydays routes in Alps, can you compare them with AV2 in regards of difficulty, exposure and crowdiness.
Thanks in advance
