They changed the rules for paper tickets on regionale tickets last year. Now you have to purchase them for the exact date you intend to use them, although you don't have to indicate a time. So nope, no more just buying in advance and tucking away for trips within a two-month period. That's why I'm thinking that even if your regionale ticket was purchased within the 2-month window, it isn't good anymore if it's paper. The best explanation I've seen(in English)is here:
