Hi All,
Myself and my intended are doing a quick nip to Siena & Rome after our wedding this year. Siena isn't too much of a problem, as there doesn't seem to be a huge choice of hotel... good!
Rome on the other hand is a complete different ball-game.... we have done some research however some friendly advice would be greatly appreciated.
We would be looking at the following criteria - 1) 100-130 euro a night, 2) central'ish to the sights & some nightlife (if possible? less drama more romance please) 3) and somewhere a fella can get a good drink - we're Irish after all! 4) We appreciate traditional or modern hotels - however if we can avoid rooms cluttered with dust collecting furnishings that would be the business!
Sorry, know it's a bit of a tall order - but as the fella says ' There's no harm in asking'
Look forward to reading your advice.

PS if anyone has any tips for Siena also - bring them on!

www.romeby.com I'm sure you can find something to meet your criteria here. I booked a fabulous apartment
through them and was VERY pleased.

Read my review on this hotel www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=34937416
Right across the street from the Roman Forum, a 2 but IMO a 3 hotel.
But search it if you are interested (tripadvisor.com, venere.com, etc) for other opinions.
And feel free to post, Private Message or email me if you want more info.
And you take a right outside the hotel and then your 1st right within 50m you come upon an Irish Pub:).
It was €5 a pint which was a bit steep for me (USD->Euro) but I was just a wee bit thirsty that day and after 3 or 4 it didn't matter anymore:(.
Regards, Walter

In Rome, Hotel Smeraldo. Good price and so close to everything. Campo Fiori is just around the corner so great restaurants and bars, people watching patios everywhere, the best gelato shops too. Walking distance to Piazza Navarro, Pantheon, trevi fountain, short cab ride to Vatican.
In Sienna check out the Duomo( short walk from the city square), it's amazing. Buy the all-in ticket for 10 euros, this way you can see all the buildings and galleries.

I agree with #1 that you might want to look into an apartment. My husband and I will be staying in a studio apartment for 3 nights in just a couple of weeks. We booked through www.b-b.rm.it and they seemed to have a very good selection of places throughout rome in all kinds of price ranges. We are staying a block or so from the Vatican, and it was 100 euro a night. Not sure when you are going, but I will be posting reviews when we get back July 9th...

Ta very much all for your info... typically enough my broadband has just given up the ghost.... typing this at work.... v. hush hush.. hopefully I'll get up and running by the weekend and I'll come back to you with my findings/further queries... again thanks to all

In Siena, there is an "Irish Pub" at Piazza Gramsci - I didn't have a chance to try it myself but do know that they serve Guiness. For romantic spots, look at the side streets, away from the Piazza del Campo. At the Duomo Museum there is a viewing pavillion (at the top of some steep winding stairs) that has breathtaking views of the city.
